Netting

Netting provides safe protection from landing birds. Netting is available in various materials: plastic, textile or stainless steel.

There are two methods for fixing netting: with high performance bonding agent or alternatively with a tensioned steel cable frame – which requires boring or clamping.

1. Option: Ultralight plastic netting for bonding

  • After being treated with a suitable primer, holders are bonded to precleaned points with a two component special bonding agent.

  • After hardening the netting can be hung in the holders. It is also held in positon by cable binders.
  • The installation of Antec-nets requires 5° Celsius outside temperature. This is mainly due to bonding chemicals.
  • Only ultralight netting, weighing 12g/m2 (mesh width 50mm x 50mm), can be used with this method. The netting is inflammable material class B1.
  • The netting is tensioned and can be easily unhinged for maintenance.
  • Netting is also available with a special coating. It prevents dust and dirt collecting and stays clean longer.
  • Netting is suitable for medium to heavy populations of birds.

2. Option: plastic netting with steel cable frame fitting

  • Cable frames are anchored and tensioned at suitable places by boring.
  • The netting is fixed to the cable frame with ring clamps.

  • The material used for the netting is UV and dampness resistant.  We recommend our netting which meets the B1 standard for fire-resistance.
  • With coated T-beams, complex structures with stainless steel beams, bulkheads etc. we provide high performance magnets for installation.

3. Option: stainless steel netting with cable frame fitting

  • Stainless steel netting is in comparison with Polyethylene (PE) or textile netting more robust and stable, but also more expensive. The reason is not only the higher material price, but it is more expensive to install.
  • Stainless steel netting is also available as spot welded grating in various mesh sizes. Normally, for controlling pigeons a 25mm x 40mm mesh is used.

Alternatives

  • Our combination system can be used as an alternative for large, continuous installations. The system consists of stainless steel wires, which are stretched every 70mm in all directions – also vertical, and has the effect of netting.
  • Visually more advantageous is architectural cable, which stretched tightly together gives very good bird protection.
  • A step further is steel wire netting and metal mesh, which was developed for limiting surfaces. It also keeps birds away.
  • Strip curtains are also a good alternative to netting for entrances.

Pros
  • Netting can be fixed almost anywhere.
  • Highly effective, netting always prevents landing.
  • Netting can be manufactured in any mesh size against specific birds.
  • Ultralight netting can be bonded, no boring is necessary.
  • Antec netting can be given an additional anti-dirt coating.
Cons
  • Visibile on surfaces.
  • The installing of netting with cable frame requires experience.
  • Cable frames require boring for anchors.
  • UV damage cannot be excluded although the material is UV-stable.
  • If the netting is incorrectly fixed animals can get trapped within the netting and die.
  • If the netting is installed horizontally, birds can sit on it.
